Seasons of the Heart series by Janette Oke

If you have heard of When Calls the Heart, and Love Comes Softly and you love the series (book and television), then you will love the Seasons of the Heart series by Janette Oke. The series has four books in it, and they are pretty much one sitting books. Well, they were to me as they were that good. Here is the post with ALL FOUR BOOKS

Once Upon a Summer Synopsis

Sure, it’s unusual to have an eighteen-year-old-mother when you’re twelve. But when you’re an orphan and she’s your aunt – and the only mother you’ve ever known – well, it works out just fine.

That’s why I got so riled up when I heard Grandpa and Uncle Charlie talkin’ about findin’ a fella for Aunt Lou!

You see, somethin’ had to be done. I couldn’t just sit back and watch our family get broken up. But with Grandpa and Uncle Charlie workin’ so hard to marry off Aunt Lou, I really had my job cut out for me. Then that preacher came along, and things got really complicated . . .

This is the first story that hooked me. I had a friend who stayed with us temporarily, and she had these books on her. Needless to say, I borrowed them, and read all of them in a matter of a couple of days. I love the old time language, I love the setting, I love the story.

Winds of Autumn Synopsis

I don’t know who was most excited that morning my two buddies and I hoisted packs on our backs and started down the trail. Just before we got out of view of our yard, I turned for one more wave. You woulda thought we were marchin’ off to war the way Aunt Lou sobbed into her hankie.

But I reckon we were just growin’ up.

I’m sure havin’ a time of it tryin’ to sort out all these new feelings. Lately, my mind keeps slipping to the new schoolteacher’s daughter, Camellia. I could tell right away that Jack Berry was sweet on her, too. But I never coulda predicted the lengths he’d go to steel her affection . . .

Now, of course, this is the second book of the series, and he went from child to teenager. You start to see his hormones happening, and all of the feelings he has in the book, and how he copes with them.

Winter is Not Forever Synopsis

“What are you gonna do after graduation?”

Everybody’s been askin’ me that question. With graduation only a month away, it seems like I’m the only one in our little school who doesn’t know what he’s gonna do after the big day. I’ve been prayin’ about it, but I still don’t have an answer.

Is God nudgin’ me to become a minister? A farmer? A husband? Life is filled with choices. The hard thing is figurin’ out what to do!

He has become a young man. The next synopsis obviously gives away his decision from book three. And he just gets cuter by the book.

Spring’s Gentle Promise Synopsis

I ca’t believe it. Grandpa and Uncle Charlie signed all the official papers and now the farm is mine – really and legally mine. Joshua Chadwick Jones they read, clear as can be. I couldn’t be more thrilled. I mean, what other fella my age has a farm all his own, title clear and paid for? If the crop fetches a good price, I might even be able to buy one of the new Ford motorcars!

ANd then there’s this other thing going on inside me. I’ve been feelin’ a desire for a family of my own. I still don’t know how they finagled it, but Grandpa and Uncle Charlie got two gals my age livin’ at our house – Mary, our housekeeper and cook, and Matilda, the schoolteacher. I’ve always thought of the girls as friends, but something in my heart is changing a bit. Is one of them the gal God has in mind for me?

Now, I don’t know about you, but I was really sad when the series ended here. I really wanted to see what becomes of Josh’s family. You feel for him, for her, Grandpa, and Uncle Charlie. I’m not giving anything away, because there is a lot that goes on in this book.

Mistletoe Inn

Have you ever watched a Hallmark movie?  They always end the same, and sometimes questionable.  A man and woman meet in a convenient location, one despises the other, one goes through a break up, and they cannot avoid each other in any situation.  When they realized this, they make the situation a little better by getting to know each other, and eventually fall in love.

Now, Mistletoe Inn, is no different.  But, I absolutely love the leading lady, Alicia Witt.  Have you ever seen her in a Hallmark movie?  She is hilarious.  Anywho, she plays an aspiring author, who her boyfriend, an another aspiring author, breaks up with her.  She decides to sign up for a writing workshop in a hotel called Mistletoe Inn.  She is met by a man who literally collides with her, who is another aspiring author, is going to the same workshop.  Who else signs up for the workshop?  Her ex-boyfriend.

It is based, of course, around Christmas.  The man who runs into her coaches her into boosting her self-confidence to write.  They get to know each other, all the while, her ex-boyfriend is watching this Christmas love story blossom.

I suggest you watch this movie, as it is hilarious because it does have Alicia Witt in it, but it is also heartwarming.  It is a wonderful Christmas movie for authors and book lovers.  You will not regret it.
